Portuguese Inspiration
At Lupin & Brine, we craft small-batch, artisan lupini bean delicacies rooted in tradition, inspired by heritage, and made for modern tastes.
Our story begins with family—Portuguese roots that trace back to ranches and farmland, where food wasn’t just sustenance but a way of life. My family comes from a long line of hardworking ranchers, including the Mathias side, who worked the land in Half Moon Bay, and the Corea side, who were also farmers. Growing up, lupini beans were always around—a snack passed down through generations, brined and shared at family gatherings.
As a fitness-conscious, plant-based eater, I’ve long appreciated the incredible benefits of lupini beans—packed with protein, fiber, and nutrients, yet largely unknown in the U.S. That’s why I started Lupin & Brine: to bring these time-honored, slow-crafted foods to more people.
We take pride in preparing our lupini beans with care, using traditional fermentation and brining methods to create bold, flavorful varieties. Whether enjoyed as a bar snack, a charcuterie board addition, or a satisfying bite straight from the jar, our lupini beans honor the past while embracing the present.
We’re proud to bring this old-world tradition to local farmers’ markets, sharing the richness of our culture—one jar at a time.
Come taste the tradition.

Owner
You may recognize me from the farmer’s market, or perhaps we haven’t met yet, so let me introduce myself. I am Bryon, the owner of Lupin and Brine – if you have trouble remembering my name, just call me Brine ;).
I spent most of my career working for speech recognition software companies, but have always had a passion for health and nutrition. In 2024 I had a realization that a family snack I used to have as a kid could fit a need in the plant based and keto communities. Through embarking on this journey, I’ve been able to learn more about my own Portuguese heritage, as well as other North African and European cultures that use Lupini beans in their own traditional cooking.
It has been a blast and I’d love to share what I’ve learned with you!
